Allston Farmers Market

What I miss most about living in California, probably more than the humid free mild weather, is the abundance of year round farmer's markets. In Boston it is so much harder to find farmers markets, and those that do exist are only for a few months in the summer. I finally did find one about a mile and half away from my apartment. I decided to go this afternoon. It was very small, only 6 stands, and more expensive than the local grocery stores. Despite the size and prices, it was well worth it! The produce was plentiful and so fresh. Whenever I buy produce at the grocery stores in Boston it goes bad after about 2 days. It is frustrating having to go grocery shopping every other day if I want to eat fresh food. The produce I bought today was the freshest I have tasted in Boston! I bought 10 vegetables and a huge bag of spinach and spent $23. That is more than I would spend at the store but the quality was a hundred times better.

I am almost done reading Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food and now, more than ever, I want to buy as much as possible from local organic farms. Not only is the food healthier, but the taste is dramatically different. The vegetables I bought today were so much more flavorful than those from the grocery stores, including Whole Foods.

Here are some photos of the produce I bought and the dinner I made.
